Fc Stuck in reverse

I drove my 1990 fc 5spd to work today ran fine. Backed it into my spot. 2 hrs later went to leave put it in first and it moved back and stalled. Tried again felt like I could get 1st 2nd and 3rd but no other gears. Tried to force it into 4th n now it's stuck and won't move at all. Cars still in reverse. Any ideas on what happened

you have to shorten the Input shaft of the Miata gears...not really a cheap solution if that is what you are after.

If you take the reverse sensor out of the transmission and stick a long screwdriver in, you can pop the synchro/gear back into place.

Good info, where is the reverse sensor located? Mine got stuck with no reverse, or could not get it in reverse. Friend dropped the tranny and pulled off the rear, fiddled with the rods an freed it, but it might happen again, obviously it is worn.
Cost of a tranny shop rebuild?

This is a common problem with the "M" code transmissions. As stated above, pull out the reverse switch and fiddle with the shaft. There are how to videos on YouTube.

There's only one with wires going to it. If you looked under, it would be obvious.
It's about 5cm diameter.

There are two.

The plug on the passenger side is the Neutral Switch.

The plug on the Driver's side of the transmission is the 5th gear and reverse sensor.
