FC not a true sports car?
What do you guys think about this? IMO the FC handles awesome, great power, and looks pretty good. What is it lacking?? Rotaryknight keeps preaching this to everyone at zilvia.net and I think its BS.

This is a pointless discussion really. What is a true sports car? Everyone has their own definition, nobody ever agrees and it all comes down to opinion. RX-7 owners are an excitable bunch and will leap to the defence of their car, so you can hardly expect to get an unbiased opinion here! Who cares what some mug on another board thinks of the RX-7? If you enjoy yours, that’s all that matters!

hmmm...
From a magazine point of view, the RX-7 was an affordable sports car, a cheap porchse when it first came out.
But it evolved to the FC which was still a great car performance and handling but for less price than another car that handles the same...
However, the TRUE sports car was the 3rd Gen RX-7 which cost a heck of a lot and was worked on insanely for lightening and to make it look new and awesome.
From a magazine point of view the 3rd gen is a true sports car.
However, I believe my FC is just as nice as any 3rd gen and just as TRUE! (Although some day I will have a 3rd gen and I will be able to get many womens with it).

We've done this topic before. Recently too. If you call a 944 a sports car, then an FC shouldn't be a problem. Search the for poll on this subject, TONS of opinions.

An old man once said to me that a TRUE sports car, has only two seats, well balanced chasis, and doesn't come with a roof. I said wow, whoever paid a million for a Mclaren got ripped off, because that sucker has a roof.

Well, since it is a 2 seater capable of 130+mph I say it is. The problem people in the US seem to have with it is the lack of acceleration from a standstill. Everything to do with performance here hinges on the 1/4 mile. Why else would the fascination for a mustang persist? Unfortunately, even the renesis falls short on the torque rating.

Dunno about that. The idea of a Grand Touring car is being able to travel long distances at high speed in comfort and quiet. Think Jag XK8, Ferrari 550, BMW 850 and like you said, the Porsche 928. I think the RX-7 is much closer to sports car than GT car.

That adds up to GT in my book The FC is about 400kg too heavy to really be a sports car, and it's just too big externally.

I think a sports car seats 2, drives the rear wheels, and is fairly lightweight. I believe all RX-7's meet those requirements.
On a different note (and I know this doesn't belong here, but I will say it anyway), has anyone seen the Dodge Razor concept car. Yeah, yeah, I know it's a Dodge, but it's supposed to have 240 hp, rwd, and weigh about 2200 pounds. Oh yeah, it's also supposed to cost $14,000. If they make that car, everyone and their dog will buy one, or maybe two at that price.

I think its kinda Stupid how some people with newwer "Sports" cars, talk down about "sports cars from the 80's and prior.
And then gain to some, a Sports car only has ONE SEAT.
And NO removing the pass. seat does not count.

If you drive it for the sport (fun) of driving it, then by god call it a sports car, if you drive it just to get from point a to point b, call it a regular car, screw the rest
