FC Headliner Removal

Hello so my sunroof is leaking a bunch of water to the driver seat belt rail area (s5) and Im gonna have to remove the headliner to check whats up, how do i remove it without breaking every single trim piece/clip? do i have to remove the whole trim surrounding the headliner? thanks

In my experience you have to remove all the trim. I think you can get away with not removing the a-pillars. Just take your time with it. My advice is to buy interior plastic removal tools. I used them on my black interior swap, and did not break ANY interior pieces. You can find them on amazon, 10 bucks for the kit.

+1 on the interior clip tools. Sounds like your drain tube either loose or deteriorated to the point of leaking in the vehicle. Good luck on finding the source!

Agree on getting the proper plastic trim removal tools. It also helps to do the work in a warm garage/shop if you can - plastic gets even more brittle and is easier to break when it's cold. My experience is you can remove the headliner without removing the A-pillar trim, but you will need to remove the trim along the windshield and trim at the back edge along the hatch. BUT it's a real PITA to try to re-install the headliner without removing the A-pillar trim, so you may as well remove it from the get go.

Along those lines, my sunroof's been stuck for almost a decade, motor spins, think was super icey one time and something probably snapped and barely got closed. Don't quite think the manual crank turns too well before encountering force either. Most people i've talked to don't want to touch it without a spare liner on the account it'll probably destroy itself and sunroof mount. Any suggestions?

Thanks everybody, I removed the headliner and it was a rust hole on the sunroof base plate or whatever it is called (black metal piece were the sunroof rides on) I cleaned it treated it with ospho and in welded it until I can do a better fix.... The only trim i broke was the passenger pillar trim where the seat belt mechanisim rides on but oh well theres cars are getting old anyway
