CA Front pillar interior trim removal?

I'd like to remove the trim pieces on the right and left pillars coming up from the dash on my 1st gen/FB.

For those with an 84-85 parts manual handy, these are D-Code 68-171, in section 6820A-1 Pillar Trim :-)

But after poking around, it isn't clear how they come off and I want to avoid breaking anything that may be too hard to replace....

The parts manual indicates there's a fastener or clip holding it on somewhere (part no. 68172B), but not sure how to get it to release.

Any guidance on how to remove these particular pieces? I don't have to take out the dash, do I?

Thanks!

From memory there are 3 round plastic "barbed" clips that hold it on. Seems like one top, bottom, and middle. Easiest thing to do is take a trim removal tool, slide behind the trim piece and feel for them, then pry them aloose. Depending on the condition (sunbaked wise) of your pillar pieces, they may or may not come off in one piece. Dash does not have to be removed to get them out, nor the headliner.
