Actually you would prob lose some pressure, but many people run low backpressure setups on NAs with good success. The stock setup is very restrictive and there is good power to be found with a new exhaust. Just make sure you dont run literally a "straight pipe." There has to be at least a presilencer or something or you will go deaf and set off all car alarms in a 15 block radius.

There is nothing quite like the sounds of a truely uncorked rotary. :-)

A friend of mine races a SPEC-7 (stockish FB) and put a straight pipe off the stock exhaust manifold with a turn down pipe right in front of the rear axle. At WOT on the track he was the single loudest car out there, and this included some big-bore V8s.

Amen to that. My car has a RB road race header, to presilencer to Y pipe to open, and it is awesomely loud. The other day my friend who lives near by called and said he heard me coming home. I went over my route by his house and the closest I got was over 2 blocks away. I was proud of my Vanessa.

You should be fine doing that exhaust setup. But I would recommend putting some type of muffler on there instead of a true straight pipe or the SMOG ***** are gonna have a field day with you.

I run a 2.5 inch straight pipe with a resonator and a single high flow muffler on my N/A. A straight piped N/A with a header will make you go deaf. I fired up a N/A with an open header and the whole nieghborhood yelled at me. My straight pipe setup on my N/A sounds very deep and crisp for the most part and almost like a snarl at WOT. Beware of flames by the way.

Uncorked rotaries get embarassing after a while... A muffler and a presilencer/resonator are a must, IMO.

I seriously turn off my car when I roll into my condo's parking lot--and just coast into my spot. Also, when I'm over at a friends house late I always park down the street. Just starting an Rx7 with full exhaust at night sucks.
