fc electrical issue

ive searched but i was not able to find any clearcut answers. hopefully somebody can chime in. ive got a 91 vert and last night, i took a hard right and out of nowhere, my radio and clock goes out and the door open light comes on on the dash. now the interior light wont turn on and my headunit is completely dead. The clock only shows when the headlights are off. When the clock shows, it switches on and off simultaneously with the door open light. As soon as the headlights go on, the clock goes dead. Has anybody else had this same problem? What can i do?

i just picked up this 91 vert 3 wks ago and drove off with the car in perfect condition everything working. 3 wks later, the window regulator goes out, then the water pump, then the seat speakers, now this electrical issue. i knew picking up this car was going to be a project in itself but what has everybody been spending on their fc's to restore the car even into a reliable dd condition?

FC's are notorious for electrical problems. The clock seems to be one of the most common electrical failures, along with the wiper switch. You may want to consider fixing the clock unit yourself by resoldering bad joints (if that is the problem). My clock was doing the same thing, and that's how I fixed it. I'm not sure about the other things going wrong. You may want to consult the FSM.

my '88 vert was doing this EXACT SAME THING, and this fixed it.

Jzavala: Does your car start fine every time? Crank over quick enough?

Don't replace your alternator until it doesn't. Sounds like a loose/corroded/otherwise bad connection somewhere, most likely a ground.

oh yeah, its fine....it starts pretty good, voltage on the batt is 12 still, i was thinking it could be the grounds, and i was going to check them all using aarons info and look them all through.

Thanks for the quick response guys. Icemark was right on the money. It ended being a blown power fuse and a quick trip to autozone solved the problem.
