TN fc drift/dd mods?

ok so i have a 91 n/a that im doin a little work to so i can drive it( just brakes)
and i wanna drift it a little. i had a bmw that was setup for drifting before i bought it and i loved the way it handled.
i have kyb agxs with tanabe springs now so what should i set the agxs on for now while im just driving it around town.
i have an obx header waiting to be put on and a no name 255 pump. i also have some electric fans i aim to put on soon.
i plan on buying a cat for emissions time but straight piping it the other 11 months.
what size pipe is good?
as far as non suspension mods i aim for a new clutch and flywheel/ new IM and "cold"air intake
possibly an oil cooler
but as far as anything else and suspension.. what should i go for.
keep in mind im a college student with and average paying job(not flippin burgers, but nothin like a doctor..)
all ideas and suggestions are welcome

FC's come with an oil cooler from the factory.
You don't need a 255lph fuel pump, stick with the N/A. You have plenty of fuel already.

for drifting the order goes like this.

LSD
coilovers
bucket seat/steering wheel

after that you can do just about whatever you want. suspension is key with drifting, check out the drifting section of rx7club if you don't want to be totally flamed to all hell.

LSD should be at the top of your list.

Also, don't put a 255 pump into a stock (or even pretty modded) n/a. It'll run way richer (and it's already too rich from the factory).

You'll hate it straight piped, it'll sound cool for about 5 minutes, but you'll want to blow your brains out whenever you drive it for an extended period of time. Invest in a nicely muffled exhaust with a presilencer, swap out the presilencer section with a catalytic converter when you need to.

Really no need for a different intake manifold unless your engine is radically ported.

The FC's stock oil cooler is already pretty damn good, I'd invest in proper ducting before replacing it with something else.

IS your FC S5 or S4? If tis S4 you will be losing some horsepower there if you straight pipe it..

reason it being is because if its straightpiped, your VDI isnt opening because it has no backpressure from the cats to actuate it. there are ways arround this, but i suggest atleast running a highflow cat if it is a S4.

He mentions it's a 91 right in the first sentence, so it's an S5. The VDI in an S5 has nothing to do with the main catalytic converter. It's actuated by solenoids with air pressure from the air pump. Removing the cats will have no effect on this system.

Now, on an S4 if you remove the main catalytic converter you will need to find some alternative way to get backpressure to open the 5/6th ports, or just wire them open.

To answer the OP's question, the most common mods related to this car regarding drifting have to be the elimination of the DTSS and modifying the steering knuckles for more angle.

Your best bet for more info on this subject is to cruise the drifting sub-forum since most of your questions have been answered in there already.

care to post the thread's where you got this information from?

I've heard alot of mixed things about stance and pbm, so I thought about it and planned to go with koni/gc (or maybe koni/swift)

LSD's
any clutch type: kaaz, tomei, os giken, etc

coilovers
anything fully adjustable height, preload, and dampening. Apex'i EX-V or S1, Stance (any), Buddy Club D-Spec, Tanabe Pro-5 or Pro-7

of course there's other for a lot more dollars, like DG-5

koni/ground controls are going to be a hell of a lot better than most coilovers anywhere near that price range.

if you call ground control they even have coilovers they sell for the FC that come with koni yellows.

You're probably thinking of Racing Beat's 50-60 hp gain they advertise with their turbo exhaust systems, which is really the result of the boost increase any open exhaust causes (and can also cause blown engines if proper precautions aren't taken). Not happening with an n/a.

i dont think it was an advertisement.. maybe it was just a guy telling about one of these systems he bought..
either way, what is a good affordable(for a college student) way to free up a lot of hp from an exhaust?

honestly, if you are going to DD your car and drift it, like i did, the stock clutch does an amazing job. i clutch kicked and did all kinds of dumb **** to my clutch and it still looks brand ******* new 10,000 miles later. i replaced all of the rubber bushings with polyurathane, got the mazdatrix adjustable sway bar end links, mazdatrix adjustable camber link, tokico illuminas on tanabe gf210 springs.
i was running mustang gt rims with 225/45/17 tires, an apexi gt exhaust with a 2.5" bonez exhaust, after market steering wheel, bucket seats and 5 point harnesses. it felt great around town and handled increadably when i wanted to **** around.

so lloyd was yours n/a?
and would the tokico illuminas be comparable to agxs?
i dont really like the way it rides now, but the only suspension mods are the agxs and gf210s
id like to upgrade to some coilovers in the longrun. .

imho, the illuminas ride better than any other strut setup, and yes, mine was na.

that was my setup.
when it was all done, i loved the way it rode, even though the roads BLOW around here. i put the illuminas on the middle setting on the street, and on the stiffest setting on the mountain.

hm thats a different IM than mine. ill do the minor upgrades first and then the bigger ones later. if mine will handle good with the current setup plus a few others i think coilovers would make it great
