Yea, but you should be getting high teens, low twenties.

I was getting about 22mpg on mine (mixture of city & highway) before the engine blew. I managed 26mpg once on a trip with a strong tailwind.

My general assumption when getting a car is that it's been poorly maintained. If you haven't personally changed things, assume they're original.

So, plugs, wires, fuel filter, O2 sensor - shouldn't be more than $100 for all of them (assuming you don't go with racing plug wires). If you haven't changed them, change them. That at least gives you a base to work off.

Make sure your tires are full. It sounds stupid, but it really can make a difference.

Have you run injector cleaner through your car lately? I ran a few tanks with cleaner in it, and it really seemed to help idle and fuel economy.

At least for the 88 NAs, factory fuel economy was 17/22. If you're not close, something's wrong.
