faster turbo spooling

What are the best mods for making the turbo spool faster? I bought a turbo conversion S4 which kept the auto gearbox and I am sick of mashing the accelerator and waiting for the boost to kick in at around 2800rpm. Now that I think of it, what about how to get the revs to rise quicker?

I hate to point out the obvious answer...

A manual gearbox!

I know you are serious. The one thing I forgot to mention on the above post was "please don't point out the obvious". I do agree with you of course, but that costs real money!

Yeah, unfortunately though, all the methods of making the turbo boost quicker will cost "real" money too!

Some other ideas:
- smaller turbo (who wants that?!)
- late-model BB turbo ($$$)
- twin turbos ($$$)
- nitrous (not "everyday" practical)
- bigger exhaust (finally, a realistic idea!)

Can't think of any others right now. My vote is still for the gearbox though, it'd be worth every penny.

I'm definately going to do the exhaust as my mate is going to make it from scratch god bless him! So it won't cost much at all. Then maybe, just maybe, I will have some money to be able to get a real gearbox.

Ha ha, flex plate is about as light as you can get-auto trans, remember. But yes, the idea is right on- reduce rotational inertia. I noticed much better acceleration in lower gears w/ my 11# alum. flywheel and again later w/ light forged alum TE-37s. But that is alot more $$ than straight 3" exhaust and less effect...
