Most everyone seems to think that a new clutch fan from Mazda will cost an arm and a leg.

Just know that you must connect the E-Fan to the same speed sensor the clutch fan was on so that it is used when it's needed.

My vote is for the electric fan.
Grab a fan shroud off a Taurus and a perma-cool fan from summit.
The fan shroud is a near perfect fit, the perma-cool fans hardly draws any amps, and you'll have all the girls on your jock once they see that engine bay.

A new clutch costs US$191 (S4) or US$222 (S5) from Mazdatrix. That's about the same as you pay for a decent new aftermarket e-fan.

Just know that you must connect the E-Fan to the same speed sensor the clutch fan was on so that it is used when it's needed.
The clutch fan doesn't have any sensors, it's purely mechanical. If you install an e-fan you should install an adjustable temp switch to operate it.

No actually it's not. Both types of fans have there advantages and disadvantages, but in the two most important points, cooling and power consumption, there is little to nothing in it. The biggest advantage an e-fan has is cost, but only of you can find a cheap fan of sufficient capacity. Used OEM e-fans are excellent for this; new aftermarket fans are not (see above). You also need to have an electrical system in top condition, which means you may need to factor the cost of repairs or improvements in this area.

Please do a search before asking any more questions; this topic has been covered extensively many times.

i have done reaserch but every site says things differently. so im not sure. some says that the fan clutch put too stress on the engine therefore losing power but some says that the rx7 fan clutch works differently than of other cars and you will gain nothing from getting an e-fan.

Here you go: http://aaroncake.net/RX-7/efanmyth.htm
He is very knowledgable, so I tend to trust what he says. Basically, as he says on there, the fan is only operating at idle and very low speeds. If it is fuctioning properly the stock fan will be perfectly fine for this. It will actually push quite a lot of air. The only reason I see to buy an electic fan is if you are using a larger that stock rad, or need the room for something like an engine swap.
You can get a used fan clutch at a junk yard for 20 or 30 bucks. Even if every one you buy only lasts a year (very unlikely), it will still save you money, unless you have the car for another 8 or 10 years.

The RX-7's fan works exactly like all the other thermoclutch fans out there. You'll see barely any change from an e-fan swap in any other car too.

Whoops, wasen't thinking. The clutch freewheels when it gets spinning fast enough.

Still, Aaroncake has a writeup on installing Efans.

Edit: Whoops looks like Sideways prempted me. I need read before I post.
