Failing Coils and some other Issues

My second leading coil pack just failed and I need some options and some advice for diagnoses. Also when I start the car the voltage is low until i rev to 2300ish and it "clicks" to a higher voltage. The electronics respond to the increased voltage. It has been doing this for a while and hasnt been an issue really. I think its the alternator.

Since I Installed my Haltech Ive killed 3 coil packs 2 leading 1 trailing. I would like to know the cause. Im thinking about just getting some LSx coils. Can I just pull some from a junk yard? Any other solutions/advice?

With the haltech I think you have to disconnect the coils before flashing the ecu with a new software version. I believe most ecus are like that, and I know for a fact my megasquirt is like that.
If you aren't upgrading the software, you may have the dwell set too long.
As far as the alternator goes, take it off and have it tested. I doubt it will test out, but if it does, take a look at where it gets its field power from vs stock. You may have it wired wrong.

It is recommended to disconnect the 34 pin connector on Sport ECUs when you update the firmware. In reality, it's not really necessary. The default coil settings when the firmware is updated will not cause an issue.

What is your dwell set to? Are you sure the coils are bad? The 2nd gen coils are very hard to hurt. Not sure how you're testing them, but if the plugs are badly fouled, you will not get a spark or a strobe from a timing light. If you have low voltage at low engine speeds, this could easily lead to bad plug fouling issues.

If you have issues with the 2nd gen coils, LSx coils aren't going to solve anything. The LS1 coils are entirely underwhelming in performance, and the truck coils are known to auto-discharge when dwelled to a point where they can produce a decent spark.

My Haltech Settings are stock as far as dwell (I havent changed it). And my coils havent died in a quick succession(kinda) Its been almost 2 years since i installed the Haltech with a 5 month layover when my engine blew.

The plugs are fine. My wires are fine. I dont know how to test the coils other than pull the sprk plug wire, turn it over and look for a spark.

Is there anyway to test the coils to see if they failed?

Are LS coils bad? I'm running a stock power setup. I need a solution. 2nd gen coils are hard to find.
