I have a heat shield for mine because it is too close to the turbo in the stock location. It's also on a car that I barely drive (probably 5 miles a month) so I knew that it would be ok as a temporary thing.
If you drive this car regularly I would suggest doing it right the first time.

FAL I agree with you on the placement of the sensor. I put mine just in front of the RB presilencer. Lots of people have, however, run the Bosch sensor that is included with the AEM, in the oem location without issue.
But as a guy above you said, it sends a 0-5v signal... Thats not what the stock ecu wants to see.

Zietronix has a narrow band out put to feed the stock ECU. It's one wire tht plugs into the factory o2wire.
I thought AEM also had a narrow ban output?
My wide band threaded into my header no welding required. Plug the sensor into the AEM +power+ground and run narrow band wire from AEM to factory o2wire.
