Yeah the only factory key you can't get anymore is the one that came with the 10thAE, but the factory black round head is only like $5 as I recall. Most dealers just don't stock them and rather sell you the $2 key instead of ordering the factory key.

Yeah, I don't know if I am doing a group buy on them yet.

I just purchased an OEM key.

From the looks of it, the two keys are called "Primary" and "Secondary" in the parts catalogue; I can only assume the "primary' one is plastic coated.

Anyways, pricing for those are:

Primary = $12 CAD
Secondary = $9 CAD

When mine arrives I'll throw a picture up.

Secondly, if you give them your VIN, they should be able to look up the key code, as well as tell you some nifty stuff like manufacture/purchase date and sale location.

Found out my car was built on January 1st, 1989

Well, we`ll find out come mid next week.

There`s nothing really to say whether the key is plastic coated or not. The catalogue was pretty vague....

Use dealership I bought from only had the Primary(? : Only works on doors and ignition). When I went to Mazda the one sales rep I talked to tried to initially deflect me; said I should just get a whole new key set for everything.

I am going to go back and talk to another rep later; try to find the one that did such a great job making sure everything for my 626 was done and done properly and talk to her. (I think she was the service dept manager and we kinda formed a decent understanding).

Anyway, my plan is to basically have a single copy of each from Mazda and get the rotary blanks from Mazdatrix cause I think they look really nice. I'll make two sets using the blanks and keep the ones Mazda made for me in my safe at home.

I couldn't tell you, the parts guy at my dealership (really awesome, however he knows me on a name basis now ) managed to find it.

Anyways, as promised:

Got it cut to the lock code off of my VIN, and works perfectly!

$110? What the hell did you buy?

PS - that's the part number on the packaging, as well as what I posted earlier. I've already replaced the shitty knock off key for the OEM one - works perfectly fine.

Yeah, if you need one let me know. I can get them in California and ship it over too you.

If you have the 4 digit, I can even have it cut to spec for you.
