Lower viscosity oil burns more easily than the heavier 20w-50 most people use. Thin oil plus your most likely worn oil control rings allowing oil to seep about and then it burns when you start your motor up.

Change your own oil, for christ sake. Autozone and other Ricer Houses usually have some sort of deal...$12.99 for 5 quarts of Valvoline or Castrol dino oil of any weight available and a Fram oil filter. Now, while Fram is a shitty oil filter that I've heard can cause spikes in your oil pressure, it's probably better than whatever the hell that shop put on your car.

Or, for about $20, you can get your 5 quarts of Castrol 20w-50 and a Bosch filter. 15 minutes of work for peace of mind that the job was done RIGHT with the CORRECT fluids and filters...priceless.

Synthetics haven't had that problem since the FC was on the spinning floor at a New Model car show. All they're guilty of now is cleaning out enough dirt to make rotten seals leak.

hopefully it wont be for another 3k....you cannot mix different viscosities of oil...so dont just add a little of 20w-50 when you get a chance....

Probably that they simply don't mix, like oil and water, but I'm not certain on that.

i change my oil like every 1800 to 2000 miles. i had my motor rebuilt by ernst at rx7world. my oil is like a dark gold when it comes out. people are in shock at the shop. its just me but i cant see myself waiting till 3k to do an oil change. i love my motor to much to do that to it. lol

Before the oils completely mix you get uneven loads and buffers on different parts of the engine. Nothing deplorable and it doesn't last long before the two become uniform. Still, it's not a good idea because multi-grade oil viscosity isn't decided by the number of modifying molecules, but the type, so even when thoroughly mixed it's not exactly an average of the two. Kind of like sanding with two different kinds of grit on the paper at once. Not exactly damaging if both original grades are ok for your engine, it's just frowned upon.
