Shift rattle and gear lube

I have a rattling from the shifter and I have no idea what is causing it. I've tried 2 different *****, stock and a momo, I just replaced the bushings yesterday. It shifts nicely, much tighter and smoother, but the rattle is still there.

I read in another post AND on the mazdatrix website about a retaining spring holding the shift ball down in the case it sits in. There are two "steel spring bushings" but thats no spring. Mazdatrix says the spring does not effect the rattle but I'd like to have one all the same.

Also mazdatrix suggested the gear oil should be as high as the cash the shifter ball sits in. When I put in my bushings yesterday I saw no fear oil or lube. Where do you put it in, and how much does it hold?

Would amsoil 75w90 gear lube do the job?

After going back and reading the shift bushing installation FAQ on mazdatrix (skipped it before since I got the bushings in no problem) I found out where to add the gear lube.

I think I read about 2 and a half quarts to top it up. How do I drain whats left in there now?

*sigh* nevermind, I found it in the FSM. I'd delete the whole thread if I could...
