Experts needed for intake help!

So I have a beautiful 1989 FC3S GTUs, and it has all kinds of good stuff on it. with the exception of an intake/cooling system. It still has all the stock stuff besides the air filter as far as intake. It has a straight pipe and an exhaust. I know RX7s run pretty warm, and that if youre going to do intake/cooling stuff it needs to be perfect. But I also know that the intake/exhaust could be the difference between light and dark with a non-turbo rx7 like mine. So what do I need for a fan conversion or an intake of some sort. I want to know whats most efficient for my car, how to do it, where to find what I need ect. Any help would be nice, but some advice from someone who really knows first hand would be ideal. Thanks guys!

If you have a cone filter, make sure you have ducting to keep the hot air out as best you can

Make sure your 5th/6th ports and VDI work correctly... [They should almost always work fine on S5 cars]

Beyond that.. Grab some Pineapple sleeve inserts: http://www.pineappleracing.com/6-por...sertspair.aspx and your intake is about as good as it gets.

Your cooling system should be perfectly adequate for an NA car, but if you have to replace the radiator [20+yr old plastic... Ugh] Grab a Koyo, Mazda thermostat, new hoses.. And that's the end of that.

Make sure you have a good exhaust [I highly recommend Racing Beat] and enjoy! ^_^

So, it has an open cone filter? If so... You can go back to the stock filter box with a K&N drop-in filter. (I've heard great results.) - Or you can box off your cone filter and build a custom duct to the box. Here is my custom duct -> dwb87's Custom Air Duct

As for the cooling system... You can get an aluminum Koyo radiator. It's a great replacement for the stock radiator. There are plenty of different e-fans, information, and write-ups here on the forum. One of the best cooling system modifications I ever did for my car was a yoohoo belt, to prevent the waterpump from slipping. If you have an air pump, you won't be able to use a yoohoo belt, though.

The stock intake system is fine. The only worthwhile upgrade is an individual throttle body / manifold kit and standalone EMS, but you need to be pretty serious about your car to spend that kind of time and money.

The cooling system is OK, but the stock radiator sucks because it has plastic end tanks that crack. A budget all-aluminum Koyo radiator works great for most street cars. For track racing most people go with a Ron Davis or custom Griffin radiator. Note that some aftermarket radiators require the stock radiator mounting brackets, so don't throw away any old parts until you are sure that you don't need them.

The intake/cooling system doesn't need to be perfect. Many people have made their intake worse than stock, but their cars still work. As for cooling, all it needs to do is keep the engine from overheating. A "better" cooling system isn't going to make the car any faster.

The stock fan is fine as long as the fan clutch is working.

For a serious power upgrade you will need engine porting and/or a turbo.
