Experts help please

For the last few months I have heard some strange clunking sounds coming from underneath my car. Now that its happening more frequntly and louder than before I am more concerned. I searched, and heard the whole broken diff theorybut I am not sure if thats it. I did a few test to see what I culd do to make it happen again, and it seems I can make it happen 100% of the time. It sounds as if its coming from diff areas at diff times, liek the front left rear right etc etc... It seems when I am going say 10 mph slowing for a red light or soemhtign when I hit the brakes it makes the clunking sound. Or say goign 5 mph making a left or right turn and I hit the breaks, liek when I pull into my parking spot, same sound... I searched, still confused... any suggestions? Icemark? *lol*

If it was your front diff mount, the clunk would be VERY noticeable durning acceleration.

You may need to go under the car and do some visual inspections of all your bushings/mounts. But since it happens during breaking, your wheel hardware might be suspect (Pistons, bearings,etc...) Good luck!

I used to notice that happening to my car, but after taking it in for inspection and fixing a hole in my exhaust pipe i haven't noticed it further. Needless to say i don't think it's a serious issue, i know exactly what you are describing, didn't turn out to be a big problem for me.

It is your diff mounts one or maybe all three. The clunking will eventually crack your subframe like mine has done so get it fixed asap!

So I went back out in the car.. I did a few more tests jsut to see where to clunking was coming from. Let me know if this makes any kind of sense.... When I drive forward under 5 mph and press the brake pedal i hear a loud clunk from both sides.. it seems liek its right under me, possibly in rear. But when I am making and ind of turn and I press the brake pedal it is deff coming from the rear.

Have a friend drive it really slow... Watch the rear...if it starts to buck its your diff mount

Definatly sounds like the rear differential mounts. If you need a lil extra help in determining yourself, pull your hatch carpet up and take out the sound deading mat. You'll hear it real good then. Mine is starting to do it very faintly. I've been doing a good bit of drag racing lately so something wearing out or breaking is to be expected.

Rear trailing arm grommets make a clunk sound with suspension motion, sometimes only after you have driven a few minutes.

UPDATE: I had Poor College Student and bingoboy over today both standing by the car is I showed them what I had to do to get the clunking sound. Both agreed that is was not coming from the rear but the front brake area. Now I guess my question is which peice in that area would most likely have a prob of I guess coming loose? And what could make that sound... could the caliper be loose and still work? Culd it be a suspension part? Its hard to get underneath being my suspension is so shot and I live in a studio so I dont have any tools ....
