Expected TPS service life?

I think I know there is no set answer to this because too many factors are involved on usage, but how long can you expect a TPS to last? My last one only lasted about 30K.

Should last at least 100k or life of the car... there are no real definite answers since electrical components can just wear out depending on manufacturing and usage conditions...

I was just wondering because there are a million threads on bad TPS and their replacement.

They don't generally go out after 30k. Was it a new TPS?
You might check your grounds to make sure your engine is properly grounded and all components are getting correct voltage.

It was brand new from Mazda. Not sure why it died? I'm in process of checking things.

I rewired about two years ago with marine grade wire, and a month or so ago, cleaned the fuel injector ground under the IM, so I think I'm ok on grounds. Still going through stuff

Just WHAT is bad about your TPS????

Do you have a digital meter? or swing meter?

Series WHAT car?

I've never bought a new TPS on my twenty plus yr old cars, no delibertly a used TPS (meaning I've bought old broken engines that had TPS on them, but the broken engine wasn't bought for a TPS). I've only had two occasions where my series TPS's gave me some grief. Once in the last yr and again several yrs ago. The last one that gave me minor grief is still in use and works fine and dandy.

I have both digital and swing meters. I set to 2K ohms.

1) I turned the ign. key on w/o starting after drive around block
2) it showed one light (using the two light pigtail)
3) 1.2 ohms on TPS
4) Begin to depress TPS plunger to see response and it goes off scale almost immediately

were you metering out the narrow band or wide band. The narrow band will only ready up till ~25% throttle before its maxed.

Not sure which gave the value. I'll have to look at the book again. I just swung the adjustment screw thing to move it and checked the A-B and E-D pins on the TPS. Going by memory.
