Exhaust Types Power+sound
Hey guys ,
I need to replace the exhaust on my 86 FC N/A and was looking for some ideas, lemme tell ya want i want and see if you can help, cause box labels are worthless, and user ratings are invaluable. I would like to increase power ( if possible ) and get a deep tone to the exhaust, i absolutey cannot stand that high pitched mexicali rice burner crap that is so loud and sounds like a swarm of bees flying by your head. I also have to replace the cats, or are there legal ways to go around the cats. Any pics ya wanna throw in would be helpful too

well i hope you have some friends working at the inspection stations because if you replace your cats you prob wont pass emissions. i have 2.5" straight pipe leading to dual bomz racing mufflers. the sound is exactly what i wanted in a muffler and theyre cheap too, 120 for both on ebay. they sound like a mix between an import and a domestic. it has a pretty aggressive tone to it. theyre really loud though. i call my car the excorist because i turn so many heads with my loud exhaust.

Hey, another FC owner in NC. Welcome to rx7club.
There really aren't any legal ways around the cats here (for now) but you can replace it with a high-flow cat. Meaning, the cat is still there so you can pass inspection, but it works 100x better than the regular one.
Personally, I've been looking at getting a Bonez high-flow cat and connecting it to a Racingbeat cat-back exhaust system. But right now I've still got the original exhaust on it, so I can't tell you from experience how that will sound.

If you go with the BOneZ highflow cat and the Racing Beat Cat Back... you will get exactly tthe sound yopu are looking for..
The R/B's have that lower tone you seek.

Depends on which Rex your running...
I have the Cork Sport 3" turbo back and it is damn throaty.... I ended up slapping in a 3" cat to cut down on the audio and the thrum you get at 80MPH cruising...
When I ran the N/A I used the Cork Sport 2.5" with a Mindtrain Race header and a RX-7 Fashion Midpipe... I was to damn loud so I put a cat in to tone it down...

Maybe I can talk you into letting me hear your exhaust setup when it's done since it's the exact thing I want to have done. Who is installing your cat for you?
