Exhaust manifold - let me pick your brain
Hey guys. Long story short, my roommate is giving me his bad *** turbo, and I know it'll be great, but it's a T3 flange. For how much power I'll be running, the turbo will be perfect. But there doesn't seem to be much info out there on exhaust manifolds for my 88 FC.
Are the FC and FD manifolds the same?
What are the best ones for the money that you guys have used?
Any other info would be great. This seems like a question for the archives. Thanks guys!!!!

T3 is rare for rotaries due to it being a smaller hotside usually. Whats the a/r for it? Also, FD has clearance issues with the Lim. You can usually just get a spacer for it, but then you have to worry about the turbo clearing the side of the bay. Its easiest to go with an FC manifold.

if we're talking about a T2 vs FD manifold, one of the changes to the FD engine was to move the ports UP a little, so if you visualize the ports and intake runners as a backwards L, they tilted it. this gives the intake manifold a lower profile, so the FD manifold is closer to the block. the FC intake is bigger, and the shock tower is further away, so the FC manifolds will put the turbo further away from the engine.
T3 manifolds are a little uncommon, although Apexi, Greddy and Blitz all sell T3 flanged turbos. the TD06 Greddy kits are popular with the gymkhana crowd, as they want response more than a big hp number

you can get a t4 based manifold and an adapter to go from t4 to t3,then run the turbo.
The downpipe however may need to be modified as it may not fit where it was originally supposed to line up due to the adapter lifting the turbo up an inch or 2.
Some of the cheapie T4 piped mani's can be modified to T3 by just taking the T4 flange off and welding on a T3.That would alleviate the need for an adapter.
My suggestion is Unless you intend on keeping that turbo a long, long time,I would not even bother with all the crap you need to do to run it.
Just get a T4 and you are sailin'.

We only stock( 1 left at the moment) the T4 version. We can do t3( just select from the drop-down).http://www.turbosource.com/Turblown-FC3S-RX-7-Turbo-Manifold-p/ts4-23-94583.htm
