exhaust choice

Ok I need to get a exhaust for my 87 TII. The ehausts that I have narrowed it down to in:

Apexi gt
HKS Hi-Power
Apexi N1

I know I will get perforance gains from all 3. Anyone have any of these on theyre car? how do they sound? I used to have the n1 on my sr20 and sounded amazing but, I know rotories are a lot diff lol. thanks for help. Right now It is stock but do not plan to keep it that way.

I think the N1 sounds pretty good, and it is the most common of the three on this forum. The GT is fairly new for our cars, so I have not heard that one yet. I don't think there is a HKS Hi-Power available for our cars, but rather a Silent Hi-Power, which I have not heard yet either.

Just in case you are not aware of it, installing a high-performance exhaust on your car will cause the turbo to over-boost. Therefore, you will need an aftermarket boost gauge + fuel cut defenser (FCD) or some type of fuel computer that defeats the stock overboost fuel cut system. If you are installing a full system (including downpipe) as opposed to just a catback, then you may also want to add an upgraded fuel pump and port the turbo wastegate prior to installing the exhaust system.

I've had both the N1 and the GT-Spec. The N1 sounds a bit more open and raw. The tone is low in lower RPM range and screams more the higher you take it. The GT-Spec has a nice, low tone all the way through the range. It sounds more sports car than race car. That is the best way I can explain it.

I chose to go back to the N1 set up because I really prefer the looks of the FC with dual exhaust. They are both nice.

the gt spec allows you to run the Active Tailpipe Silencer. What side does the gt spec dump on anyway?

Pleeease search and do that first of have it done professionally. Even if you have to pay a turbo shop $100-$200 to do it, it will be much cheaper than rebuilding your engine.

As far as exhausts go, I had the N1 before. It would flow really well, but I am not the biggest fan or the sound or the look (too Honda-boy trash can for me).

I would also suggest the custom exhaust route. I kind of had to go that route because I have a FB with a turbo engine in it. It is actually quite economical and, if done right, is as good or better than any pre-built. By the way, mine was done by KDR Rotary. Below are the estimated costs:

TII downpipe: $200
Reactive Muffler $45
Straight pilpe welding and installation of everything $150

Having a custom, qaulity exhaust that sounds good and does not look like a Honda--priceless!

Is the Racing Beat TII exhaust pretty good? I have a 3" inch turbo back right now but I kind of wanted to tone the noise down some since the cops around home really love to write tickets for it but I like the exhaust. I wasn't sure if the racing beat would be worse performance wise or if I would just be better off getting a silencer for this one.

I'm currently running an HKS silent Hi-power exhaust on my N/a FC. it sounds great and has a deep sound from what i've been told. I'm still using all original cats though
