every time I boost the car... I smell gas?

so this is really wierd... I smell gas inside my FC everytime I hit boost! WHY? I dont think fuel pulsation dampener is leaking, it felt dry, and I have JDM fuel rails (the backwards ones)

I just done see why it would only be when under boost? Pressure should be the same regardless, just more flow, and I dont smell anything at idle.

yes I do actually one of the bolts broke off of the wastegate cover when I was tigtening them. Im switching to a S5 turbo next week, so that will fix that. Think it could be it?

I did emissions removal too

Check the Pulsation Damper!!! It probably isn't your problem, but checking to see if it's leaking is much better than sitting at the side of the road watching your car burning down.

You're probably smelling it out of the exhaust. What are you doing for injectors and fuel control? If you have an open exhaust, you are going to smell it.

Check the PD to make sure it's not leaking just to make sure, though.

I have kinda an open exhaust. It consists of a 3" downpipe to a high flow cat, and 2 presilencers and a fart cannon.... racing beat exhaust is going to be installed shortly (crap setup came with the car.)

For My fuel setup, Im using a walbro 255 Fuel Pump, 720CC secondaries, and a R-tek 1.7 ECU. Emissions are removed.

I want to change my pulsation dampener, It doesnt appear to be leaking, but id Still like to for the peace of mind. The problem is I have fuel rails off of a J-Spec Motor where the pulsation dampener is on the secondary rail, and the FPR is on the primary rail.

My question is is the US Pulsation Dampener the same part as the one on the J-Spec fuel rail?

I've seen cars with bad fuel injector lower grommets allow some of the fuel to be pushed back out of the motor under boost and smell a lot, while under vacuum the fuel is sucked into the engine for the most part...more so for FD engines with bad primary injector orings though.

try pressurizing the intake tract and see if the injector grommets are leaking, that is the only place you will smell gas coming from a leak in the system.

Mega bump! Did anyone ever get a definitive answer on this? I am also having fuel smell on boost. It definitely smells like raw fuel though, not rich, straight exhaust... This is my first t2 though, so maybe I am not used to just how rich they run.

I cleaned my pcv valve(?)(the one connected to the TID) which was gunked closed. It now lets all air through in 1 direction and maybe 5% through in the other direction. The smell got a little less, but it still does it. I was thinking of checking the old brittle hoses that go the the charcoal canister next and maybe grabbing another canister from a junkyard (the same as NA?).

My injector grommets and intake gaskets are all new (3000 miles), so I hope it's not them.

I have a feeling it's related to the evap system, and according to the FSM it's pretty simple. I don't really know though... Would loosening my gas cap and going for a spin let me know if it is indeed evap related?

First thing's first.

With the engine off and the key in the on position, jumper the yellow two prong connector by the passenger side strut tower. that's your fuel pump check connector. this will pressurize your fuel system with the engine off to check for leaks. You can even do this with your UIM off.

What A/F ratios are you running? If they are in the 10s, you will smell fuel on boost.

I had this. Check around the injectors for wetness or evidence of past wetness.

Yeah 10's on the AEM wideband. It smells raw though! It's so hard to believe. Guess I should get that safc installed and lean it out a little.
