I had a car accident recently and was wonderin how much it would cost to replace all the parts of the front end not including the motor *motors fine* just body is damaged heres a pic

probably run you below $500 if you can find the parts for a good price

 

Don't get emotionally attached to your car...
Dump the shell and find a good non-running chassis to move everything over.

That kinda damage can easily total out your FC according to KBB.

Sorry, some of us do. Sure, it's just a car, but the same can be said about women. Do you discard your women when they fall and scrape a knee?



Anywho... if you can source the parts from junkyards, parts cars, etc... probably not a horribly lot. What all's damaged?

I don't think that kinda comparison is applicable in this case...

This is not how car insurance does business...

I got into a recent accident when a Ford Explorer nailed my driver's side rear tire well - her fault.
It hit right above the wheel and slid behind that.
The damage didn't look bad, but when the adjuster came around he was ready to total the car.
Damage would easily surpass $2,000, and that broke the 75% KBB rule quite easily.
I have a 1987 Turbo II.

like i said the motor was is fine, theres nothing wrong the only thing
that might be damaged would be the read, and yes the headlights
are toast... and i was considering doing the S5 anyways, looks like i
gotta do it sooner than i thoight though

 

^ Its not about the motor. no one said anything about the motor except you. its the body work.

 

Possibly not, but I was mostly stating that some of us do get attached to our cars and don't throw them away.

If it was just a parts swapping case I'd say go for it. But the sway on the front end indicates that one or both of your frame ends (the rails that the re-bar bolt to) have been pushed over. In that case, you're going to need to pay to have it straightened by a good body shop equipped with a rack *cough* cough*...

As far as an estimate is concerned, it could be 2000-4000 depending on who buys the parts. Most body shops won't even be able to FIND parts for your car so you may as well skip that step for them. If you decide to fix it that is.


If it were mine, Id be shell shopping right now. For the cost of a repair you can probably find another running car....swap the best of both into one frankenstein'd good little 7....BAM.

 

Not a good thing to do - financially speaking.
The cars are all approaching 20 years old.
They are not collectors items in the truest sense.
Even down here in Hawaii, there are owners getting rid of them for free - I'm talking about non-running vehicles with good bodies.
I do "shell swaps" all the time - it's not hard, but it is tedious.

It's implied.
We all should be paying insurance to cover the cars.
I wonder if the owner has collision coverage?
Thus, you can easily go through insurance to take care of this matter.

If you backyard fix it.. $150 plus paint.

If you paint it yourself- $40 + parts

If it still tracks straight on the road, just get a new hood, some headlight buckets (put them all the way down this time) and a fender and roll on...

As Ted said, these cars aren't going to be $100,000 auction cars, If it was your dad's car or your first then try to save it... But if there is significant damage then chock it up to experience and swap the parts.

They made so many of these cars they are not as rare as we would all like to believe...

 

BTW it looks asthough the car had been wrecked before as the paint under the hood's paint looks like the primer typically used by high end bodyshops.......

 

good eye, it does look like a decent high-build primer. edit: the factory paint would have a dull grey-ish e-coating underneath.

But its hard to say whether it was wrecked, its more than likely just had a decent paint job at some point.
