Erratic oil presure

My oil pressure is usually a solid 30 psi at idle, going up to 60 psi by 1500 rpm and it usually hangs there till about 4000rpm, where it goes to 70 and higher.

Problem is, now sometimes I catch my oil pressure at 15 or 10 psi at idle according to my gauge. I changed the oil, which had 2000 miles on it, and the oil pressure shot up to 110 psi, no matter what engine speed, now it sits at about 70 psi at anything over 800 rpm.

Should I be worried?

I think it matters what weight you put in, when I put in heavier weight, the pressure seemed to be much higher, especially under acceleration.

You should check the system from proper oil pressure.

Anything under 15 psi at anytime the engine is running; you should be worried.

The stock oil pressure guage sucks on my rx7 it showed like zero on freeway and the only time it worked when it was warming up in the morning. Id just buy a aftermarket one.

I would recomend a thermal pellet. A common failure point on 2nd gen's. I just bought one of of E-Bay. The install is really very easy. I broke my E-bolt lose using the remove EGI fuse and brace on frame method.

Good idea. Cheap insurance against critical failure.

banzaitoyota, is this a fix that can be done an assembled engine or is this a mod done during rebuilding. I have the systematic low oil pressure as described in the second link and would like to check it out to see if it is a problem.

It can be done on a engine that is installed, just follow the FSM and the directions in the links above

I just did it. I braced the clutch pedal with a board. Removed the fan and shroud. Cut a Pipe to extent my 1/2 rachet to the frame below the battery. Removed the egi fuse. Had my son engage the starter. Read this post and see Icemark's post.
