Engne Rebuild Prep

A few guys have asked me exactly what i do to prep for a rebuild. Its easy as I just organize all of the internal engine parts for the specific rebuild.

I am looking to keep this car for many years. the engine is going in a vert i am restoring. As you can see all internals are new including the oil control rings. the blue pully on the table is a Higgi special. I generally have a seperate table for tools as i have a bad habit of tossing tools on the taqble and once broke a new apex seal - so no more!

I like the setting. It's clean! I hate working in an oil and dirt infested area.
When installing the parts, you want to keep it wet with oil (not too much). I use a spray with 10W30 (easier to spray) and spray the parts as I install. It will smoke a bit upon start up for a few minutes. Remove as much carbon as you can. I soaked my parts in a bin with ATF for a day and was easier to clean.
GM (General Motors)has a cleaner they sell at the dealership called "Top End Cleaner" . It's amazing stuff that "melts" caked on carbon. They're NOT cheap though.
If you're installing used apex seals, they should go into their respective rotors and rotors into the housing it came out of.
I see you have Hylomar (good stuff!). Have a shop manual and take your time. Old apex springs and side springs is helpful when installing new ones.
