Search on either my username, or harness. I just did this about a month ago. Bought my harness from Mazdatrix. Sit down. $600.
It's real, and it's SPECTACULAR.

Hey guys... i have a harness now... should i have a shop put it in or do it myself? I've heard its a ten hour job from mazda... that could be some mad cash from me to have someone put it in. How hard would it be to do myself?? and is there any documentation on how to do it?
Thanks

Aaron, it's just a matter of taking things off to access the plugs and plugging the harness in. Hell, I can even help work on it this week. I'm off work tomorrow and Thursday. I need to do the plugs in my TII anyways...it should be a little warmer tomorrow too.

Dude, save yourself the money and do it yourself. It's not that hard. The most you'll have to do is remove the intercooler and upper intake. Save that $400 (if even THAT cheap, ten hours labor is expensive!!!) for upgrades!!!

Hey taco,
Don't take your car to the dealer, you can do this. The first things to fry are usually the plastic plugs. You can get replacement plugs from rotary performance, a lot cheaper than a new harness. You will have to remove the intercooler and upper intake, no biggie. If you have to run new injector wires like I did, you'll have to remove the vaccuum tree.

replacing a harness is not the hard. when i put in my j-spec engine i simply removed upper intake manifold, bolts that hold down the hard metal lines on top of the block and removed 1 plug on the old harness and plug in the same plug on the new harness.so you are just replacing connections one by one using the existing harness as a guide. this method worked for me and that was the first time i ever worked on a mazda rx-7.

on the haltech comment, for
$1000 you get a haltech, 3 bar map, nothing but wires, no end plugs on em or nothin, btw I hear their ended wiring sucks, and best to wire it completely yourself ;-)
So you're still wiring yourself which I wouldn't mind doing, just some might not...
but I hear its not that bad *cough* http://www.ricemobile.net/haltech.htm
