Engine speed signal
89 Convertible (NA). I'm getting two beeps, pause two beeps coming from the area of the dead pedal even when the engine is off. I pulled the 25 volt fuse and it stopped (well, I could still hear it very faintly). FAQ says its a problem with the engine speed signal.
My question is, what can I do to repair it?

Thanks for jumping in on this. I got the info from the sticky:
I keep hearing a beep beep beep
Probably the power steering computer telling you there is a problem with the system. The number of beeps before pausing will indicate the problem.
1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:
In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the buzzer sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.
2-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of engine speed signal:
The buzzer sounds twice and repeats when the vehicle speed signal is missing input and/or no engine speed signal is found (short circuit, broken wire, etc.)
I may have pulled the room fuse. It says 7.5 and sticks up higher than the rest.
something else I noticed. the amber security light in the center console is on steady. When I pull the fuse, it goes out.
Thanks again.

I ran the procedure described in the link and the CEL does not flash. I did notice that the windshield wipers aren't working. I don't drive the car in the rain, so I don't know how long this has been like this.
So here are the symptoms as I know them now:
1. Beep (not buzzer) from under the dash beep beep pause beep beep pause etc.
2. Security light is on in central console. (Goes off when the car is started.)
3. Windshield wipers don't work.
4. Removing the room fuse leaves a very feint beep as described above
5. No codes.
I have no idea what to do.

If your engine runs fine, the ECU won't store any codes and it doesn't know anything about the chassis electrical, which is where your problems lie.
The wiper system is pretty much independent of anything else and starting with the fuse, it's a straightforward diagnostic tree, described in the FSM. It's likely a switch problem, but depending on your history/knowledge of the car, it might be worth looking under the valence and making sure the linkage is OK (good time to clean out all the compost that's no doubt accumulated and make sure the drains are clear)...but it's probably the switch.
No idea on the other stuff.

Since your beep code is telling you there's a problem with the speed sensor signal, just test the damn speed sensor, which is located in the instrument cluster. The speed sensor output is a G/R wire in connector C-01 and it goes to the power steering control as well as cruise control, so there are a few spots to access it and do the spinny wheel test.
If you're getting the expected signal, then yeah, move on to the computer or pump- and I understand that the computer is the favored/most likely culprit- but you're having so many electrical glitches at the same time, while stating that the engine runs fine, that a purely electrical cause is also a logical assumption.

Joker, I don't know what you meant by compost, but what I found was a ton of mouse poop, fiberglass insulation and skeletonized mice.
The rod is disconnected at the motor. I can't get my head in there to look and the FSM and parts fiche aren't helpful. How is the rod held on to the motor?
