Book time?

If you mean how long does it usually take people to pull a motor. I'd say, 2 people that are experienced with RX7s can do it in maybe 3-5 hours. If this is your first time pulling a motor, and you're by yourself, 2 days.

A completely inexperienced friend of mine did it with minimal help from an experienced friend in about 5 hours.

Ask your local Mazda dealer.
Flat rate- or "book time"- estimates can be wildly deceptive in my experience.
In many cases the "book" doesn't figure on shortcuts that clever/experienced mechanics have discovered.
On the other hand, the "book" was formulated when the car was new and does not account for the effects of aging.
For instance, "remove intake manifold" will be casually thrown in- it was easy when the car was new but can be a hours long nightmare after twenty years of corrosion has occurred.

I'd believe the estimate of a specialist shop rather than the factory book any day- especially when it comes to an older car.

Having never done it before, I removed an s4 n/a in about 10 hours. But I also had to rig up a way to get the engine out since I don't have an engine hoist.

book time looks to be around 15 hours to remove and replace the engine.

It would really be interesting to see the whole engine and transmission done in two hourse to include dropping exhaust out of the way, pulling wire harnesses from ECU, pulling off air box and associated plumbing, draining fluids pulling radiaor and shroud stuff. It was eight hours from the time we pulled the car into the stall until the engine and tranny were on the stand.

2-3 hours (with a lil help here and there)

since your in san diego his name is fidel ruiz (wescott mazda 30 years) the tranny stays in the car (just the motor). When you have pulled over 1000 rotaries in your life time you pick up lil tricks to make it go faster. (my car did'nt have a/c p/s emiss. stuff on it)

book time is for removal and replacement, so its like 12+ hours depending on if its turbo or not, and if you sell anything extra.

i think i'd need to do one or two to warm up, but i can pull the motor, rebuild it and have it back in the car running in 12hours.
