Engine Rebuilt Kit - which one?
Hey there
I got an '89 GTUs and I need to rebuilt the engine. I think just the side seals are gone but I've decided if I'm gunna pull the motor I'm just gunna rebuilt the whole thing. I wanted opinions for what the cheapest, most reliable rebuilt kit costs and where I can purchase it. Also if anyone knows of any full rebuild tutorials online, that would be helpful, I found a partial one on fc3s.org but its not completed. This will be my first rebuilt eek!
Thanks

I'm getting mine from Rotary Aviation. You can go to www.rotaryaviation.com to see the kits. What makes you think you lost the side seals? If you did, you will probably have to go with the "complete" kit which is close to $1000. The intermediate kit does not include the side seals (thats the kit I got...about $550). Good luck bro, keep us updated, and don't hesitate to some on here and ask for help.

I heard that JUST side seals are like $90 but a whole kit is like $550. I just went to the RA web site and found 2mm seals & springs for $182, http://www.rotaryaviation.com/2_mm_apex_seals.htm - is this what I need? Is there anywhere else for cheaper that would be worth it? thanks -- I'll keep you all posted.

If you have the confidence that you will be able to manage pulling the motor out and putting back in, the only problem being the internal part of the block... I'd highly suggest purchasing Atkins rebuild video, they have it on their website for $30, it was all I needed to rebuild the internals of the motor (it's good).
I bought kind of hybrid kit from Atkins, getting mostly only what I needed. It didn't include side seals (I reused my old ones). What makes you so sure it's your side seals? Apex seals are known to be more likely to fail than the sides... Hopefully you'll find your old ones in usable condition and save some money. I'd probably buy the apex seals from rotary aviation (good price) and all of the other seals you think you'll need/want from Atkins (cause they're awesome)... Actually if you want the video, I don't need it anymore and I could sell it to you for a good price.. PM me if you're interested. Good luck and be sure to set a side a decent chunk of time so that you won't be pushing yourself to hard and end up making a mistake.
