Engine Questions.

Ok i know some of you will **** and moan about this but, I am doing the allmighty TII swap. (Pause for complaints). But i have a few question's for everybody.

-I want to do like a bridge port with the motor to make a lot of HP. Should i go with a bridge or an extremely large street port?

- who could i send that out to. To have them port and polish it? know a price for it?

- I want to know about the internals. What do you guys recomend I use. Such as who's apex seals? 2 or 3 piece?

-Would i benefit from 3 window bearing, and race rotor bearings?

-I would like to use lighter rotors aswell.

- How hard is it to rebuild the engine. I mean with the all the seals in it. Can you screw it up if you are off a little? How do the seals stay on the rotor?

Thanks for the info ahead of time.

call JR's Rotary and ask for ITO if u r serious about doing this...he'll tell u but mind u that he's pretty busy so be direct and clear and try not to waste his time...be patient if u can't get someone to pick up the phone on the other end..his number is 973-904-1613...rebuliding is definitely something u can screw up if u don't know what u r doing...I suggest u talk to ITO or any other professional...I'v known ITO for a little while but he knows rotaries like the back of his hand..so give him a call...

How much power do you want?&nbsp I find anything you gonna street and under 500RWHP a waste of time to bridge port.

I'm sure several people will chime in here...

about the internals. What do you guys recomend I use. Such as who's apex seals? 2 or 3 piece?
Again, dependent on what kinda power you're looking to make...

-Would i benefit from 3 window bearing, and race rotor bearings?
Not unless you're going to spin it past 8,000RPM or make over 500hp.

-I would like to use lighter rotors aswell.
Sure, hand over $1,000 EACH to Racing Beat...

If you're mechanically inclined and can read the Mazda Factory Service manual, anyone can do it.

Is this for real or some high school pipe dream?

Thanks for the replys.

And as for Ted, YES I AM IN HIGH SCHOOL! So unfortunatley i HAVE a budget. but yesterday i found my tranny, diff, and half shafts. so now i am commited. I know for a fact it will take me awhile to do this. I know some may criticize but hey we all have our limits.

-Yes i really do plan on doing this.

- I am looking for a car that is "streetable", but i want to blow the doors off of most up here. Let me tell you, that aint much. My goal is to run about low 13's, high 12's. And have about ?250- 350 RWHP . Is this realistic or am i dreaming?

- My plans eventually are:
FMIC
T-78 (someday)
Fuel system
3in Custom exhaust
You know everything that I will need to support that T-78
-Then of course HANDLING SPRINGS, not lowering ones. I don't want my car lower to look good. I want it to be lower to perform better.
-Struts to get rid of that nasty wheel hop
-Reprogrammed ECU or just the AEM one.

what ever you guys prolly don't care so i will stop boring you.
I still need to get a TII drive shaft and the motor too.
- Anyone know or recomend some one to go to for the rebuild and port that will be cheap.

- Plus anyone have any estimates on how much a regular rebuild w/ an extreme street port

Let me tell you some things from experience:

- 250 to 350 can be done without any porting at all

- if you HAVE to... a mild port will get you there

- "Extreme" ports are not for people with a budget, they are for people who are willing to sit with about 4 sets of side plates and a diamond tip dremel and go through however many motors it takes until it's done right.

- "Extreme" ports are not streetable (hence why they are called "Extreme")

- T-78 is complete overkill, you can achieve 280ps with the stock turbine (within your goal) or 380 with a T04

If money and time are your concern, then get the fuel management to open the injectors, open up the intake and exhaust, invest in quality guages to measure what the engine is doing then...

Boost up!

All that will cost you less than half what just the turbine would be, and you will be sitting well within your HP parameters.

Good luck!

Thank you for your information and time!

This makes me a lot happier and gives me some direction. I wasn't saying i would port this myself, because i don't have the money to screw up. And as for porting i was saying a LARGE STREET PORT not an extreme porting job.

But you are saying that i can have around 300 rear wheel hp with out going insane? thats sounds great.

The whole bridge port thing was prompted by a ad on the partstrader and SOULASSASSINS car. Either way i would like to have a ported motor because i hear it does wonders.

But on that note aswell, is there anyone who can tell me if the street port will hold up to the cold weather in wisconsin? I mean are they still reliable in the cold?

Like RotaryMiata said, it can be done without porting...
Yes, it is entirely realistic to attain those power levels.
Stock turbo will get you to 220RWHP.
A compressor upgrade on the stock turbo will get you to 300RWHP.
A full T04 upgrade will get you too 350RWHP.

T-78 (someday)
As RotaryMiata said, it's way too big for your needs.&nbsp This is a 500hp potential turbo.&nbsp Those who own this turbo say the powerband is too peaky and doesn't kick in until 4kRPM.&nbsp Personally, I don't think this turbo is very streetable.&nbsp I've revamped my turbo page a bit...

I charge $1,000 min for rebuild + $600 for a big *** street port.

Ted

- Would you be willing to work something out? It won't happen for a while but when i do. Because i want to rebuild it myself. but if it goes POP! i don't want it to be my fault and have to spend more to fix it. I'd rather have someone who know s their ****.

- But $600?!?!? that's sounds like a rip off to me. No offense but that port better do my laundry for me when its done as well as cook some RICE.

It's all on the N-XSi page.

I run some super secret back-filling port technique for my Stage II ports, so thus the high bucks for that port job.

The prices are not fixed yet, so it will eventully come down.&nbsp I just put those numbers in there to see if anyone reads it.
