Question Brake Booster Install

Has anyone replaced their brake booster? Mine is leaking where the master mounts into it and the black paint is coming off of it and it's still leaking and it looks like ****. I also believe it's causing a vacuum leak. At idle when I depress my brake pedal my RPM's drop some.
I'm contemplating getting into it and replacing it. What am I getting into? Any tips?

Thanks

there is no fluid in the brake booster, any leaking oil is from the master clyinder. and my rpms drop when I step on the pedal too...

RPM'S

So it's normal for the RPM's to drop some when hitting the brake? If that's the case that makes me feel better. You ever replace the booster?

When you hit the brakes...they cause a large drain in the charging system and your alternator cranks up.. putting little more strain on motor....

I only had to change my booster when i went to non-ABS brakes.

AKA, you missed what Scott said. The brake booster does not contain fluid. If anything is leaking it is the master cyl. That is what needs to be checked into. Unless you wanna throw money at the brake booster. From what I have learned these cars like money being thown at them

I concur.&nbsp The brake booster is not the problem.&nbsp What you're describing is the brake master cylinder leaking.&nbsp Mine did the same thing, and I have a "scarred" brake booster to prove it too!

Thumbs up Brake booster

Cool, thanks for the advice! Brake Master Cylinder replacement here I come. The BMC gets used as an elbow rest when changing the plugs and Oil filter. I'll have to mark it "NO STEP" in Bright orange to remind myself.

Thanks again.

You can lean on it all you want.
It's the internal seal that fails and the fluid leaks out the back.&nbsp The seal between the brake master cylinder bore and brake booster isn't air-tight, so it's going to leak back there.&nbsp If it were sealed, all that fluid ends up on the foot insde the car!
