Engine Questions
I am about to rebuild the engine in my 1988 TII, and I have a few questions.
1. Are the Atkins Apex Seal kits on Ebay worth buying?
I want to start making some serious HP soon and I want to know if these seal will hold up.
2. I want to clearance my rotors so that I can rev the engine to around 8500. I may streetport the engine while I have it apart, but I want the extra rpm even if I dont port the Engine.
3. I want to upgrade the clutch while I have the motor apart as well. Can I just upgrade the disk? Will that be alright or is it a dumb idea?

I know people say that you wont make any power above redline, but I have a reason for the higher redline. This car is going to be autocrosses a lot and I want the higher redline so I dont have to shift when Im 30 feet from a turn and turning 7500 rpm. I can cleanrance the rotors my self and just want to know how much to take off.

Wouldn't it accelerate slower with taller tires. And its gonna take pretty tall tires to get the affect of 1000 extra rpm. And wouldnt it be easier to clearance the rotors with the equipment I already have while I have the engine apart rather than spending $200 dollars on new rear tires?

Yeah, that's true - your acceleration will suffer.
Does your ECU allow you to rev that high?  I dunno what class you're in, but a modded ECu will bump you up in class.

No one can help you!
Seriously, a TII is usually not very competitive in racing here because of people thinking like ReTed "it is not worth it." (not a slam on Ted, read on) Once you mod a TII so it is fast it is in a high class and you really have to keep up w/ some serious machinery. But, they can be competitive if you go that extra mile in EVERYTHING.
Tripoint engineering is one company that has had very good sucess racing the TII and are partially the reason it is classed so high when modded.
If anyone can help you it is they.
I did countless little things to increase the VE of my engine in my streetport TII build up- just the kinds of little things people say "aren't worth it" and the result was I increased the flow to the point of over-running the hybrid turbo incredibly. The hotside is '89+turbo and manifold, ported WGs, bored scroll and outlet for a larger wheel, "O" trim wheel clipped 15 degrees. Compressor is 60-1 Hi Fi. 20 psi by 4,000 rpm on a 6.5 psi WG running richer than 8:1 AF w/ greddy relief valve open since 15 psi . Ooops, gotta get a bigger turbo.
Obviously, to be successful in racing you have to do all those things other competitors deem "not worth it" and then some more things only you have thought of.
And even then, you better be a damn good driver!!
Good luck, Ian.
