engine placement

Hey guys, i've always noted that the fc engine sits at an angle. Why is that?(Room for turbo??)And what would happen if i try to "straighten" it out, so to speak?
The 8s engine sits perfectly straight...

I never really paid attention, but I would make sure the engine and transmissions mounts are good.

As long as the bottom of the engine oil pan area is level with the ground, you will be good. A lot of bmw in line 6 are mounted at a tilt, thus the oilpan is made to be level with the ground while tilted

Probably to clear steering shaft in RHD configuration.

But some angle is desirable as it keeps the needle bearings in the driveshaft u-joints rotating. A perfectly straight driveline does not.

the Rx7 engines are always pointed toward the US drivers side to make room for the RHD steering.

if you put the engine straight, the exhaust, fan and intake won't line up anymore.

I'm wondering why you would see a flaw in the configuration. It works and is proven already.
Just be thankful that the engine isn't cocked sideways and your car isn't front wheel drive!

Not flawed, just asked for the reasoning and Aaroncake answered it (thank you by the way).
I just wonder about the car logic from time to time

yes, i noticed it recently, theres more room in the turbo side of the engine bay.... and the differential sits on a small angle also compared to the tunnel if you look under the car.

I lowered my engine and trans, also it sits even not off centered. It was done when i put my rew swap so the hood will clear my cosmo manifolds.I did mounted the engine using stock FC mounts brackets and semi solid mounts.A inch was trimmed of the engine mounts and 1/2 a inch of the trans.I did affected my angle on the rear end and i was destroying differentials and ripping the center diff mount right off so i had to correct the angle on the diff, i used a hardened mount and a bump stop to fix the issue other than that is all good.On a stock car it might not really mess anything up if you move the engine a little 2 the right.

hmm, I shortened my engine and Trans mounts by 1/4 inch all around. I'm hoping I don't get problems or else I'll have to put my stock mounts back in.

I'm also thinking since you lowered your engine more than the transmission it could have made the center of the diff and transmission output not parallel

When i had my turbo s5 motor on this same chassis the engine was lowered around a 1/4 of a inch and it was fine. The 1/2 inch difference between the engine and trans was done in order to try 2 keep the factory angle on the drivetrain but i didnt take into consideration than a different block was gonna be used and even that it was gonna be mounted with stock brackets the angle was gonna get affected more.Something had to move enough to cause the issue but is all good now.
