You will need the engine stand adapter, it sucks but you're life will be easier for buying one.

No you don't have to have the adapter. I built my 12a using just 2 of the arms on the stand. I did have to take the studs out of the front plate and find the right bolts to go through the arms and into the front plate, but it will work.

You CAN do it without a rotary specific stand, as I have seen people post examples in the "Rotary Performance" section using standard Chevy/Ford style stands. But the rotary specific stand makes it so much easier.

You can make one in about 10 minutes if you have access to some scrap metal and a welder.

I got mine from CP Racing.

I know somebody that has access to a welder. How can I make one? What would the dimensions be?

Take a look at my engine build thread. It has some good pictures of the stand from which you can get an idea on how it's made. I am hesitant to measure since CP Racing is trying to make money selling them, and it wouldn't be fair to take measurements of their design and post it for all to see. Essentially, you can probably make a decent copy from the pictures. The only critical measurement is the space between the bolt holes, which you can get from your engine.

Arrow rotary mounted - flipped or rolled

Which end of the rotary is going to be attached to the stand? Does the engine need to rotate around the axis made by the crank, sort of like rolled? Or, should it be attached so the the engine is sort of flipped end over end?

thanks

End over end, I believe the engine stands bolt to the intake and exhaust port bolt holes on the end iron.
