engine misfire

i have two rx7 a 87 n/a and a 87 turbo. my n/a misfires when its cold, but once it warms up it stops. my turbo also misfires only a lot worse, i just got the turbo and it has some issuses so i can't let it warm up so i'm not sure if the misfire would go away or not. i was wondering if that is a normal thing or if it is something wrong and if so if anyone has had similar problems and might give me suggestions on what to check.

I think all the FC's that I have been around backfire atleast once when they are cold. Way back I read that it had something to do with the old trailing coils not firing every so often so some fuel gets tossed into the exhaust that shouldn't and results in the clasic pop noise that comes from our exhaust at idle while cold.

TPS, crud around the throttle plates, old plugs, bad engine grounds, bad plug wires, etc.

I too had that problem but mine was all the time, my mechanic says that the trailing wire to the injector is bad. I hated this cause it made me look like an idiot, it would almost choke out then vrrooooom! I'd take off like a rocket.

trailing wire to the injector?? you mean spark plug? yeah im sure thats what you meant.

im searching the forum for answers to fix my smog failing problem.

so far, im replacing my 02 sensor, checking the TPS, adjusting the lean-rich pot , checking the ACV, getting new plug wires... god i hate california.

heh, april. im bringing this back from the dead.

mine misfires all the time on startup for about 10 seconds, sounds like a diesel engine, but them it smoothes out.
I'm pretty sure it's a mix of the cold weather, and my very old spark plugs and wires. I'm going to be replacing them very soon.
