I might have some extra money coming and wanted to get everyones opinions. I could get an s-afc & ebc or I could go with a full ems(haltech?). I know most people will prolly say go with the EMS but is it really worth it? I mean I do plan to get a bigger turbo down the road but that will prolly be another year. Also, how much of a pain is having someone tune it? My goals for the next 6 months or so are to get in the low 13s to high 12s if possible and if not as close as possible. I'd like to be able to run 2 different boost levels(as low as possible and high as efficient and safe) with 2 corresponding fuel maps and do this whenever I feel like. Please give me some feedback here. Thanks.

 

go ahead and go with the stand alone. it may be pain to tune but your car will run better and you dont have to trust the life of your engine to how well you can solder. plus you will make more power on the stand alone too, always.

 

I back up what FC Drifter has to say. A properly tuned Haltech will make more power and run your car better than a piggy-back system. You get what you pay for.

 

Haltech all the way. if your coming up on that much money. Well worth the money. if i wasnt so cheap i wouldve got one instead of what i got right now.

 

Well I most definitely won't have a infinite amount of money. I am worried I might not have money to have it tuned properly. I would also have to buy a laptop. Thing is I don't like to do things half-asses, and making me have to do them twice. An EBC and S-AFC do seem alot more user friendly though. I don't know though...

 

You said you plan on upgrading your turbo later...a haltech will handle that better than multiple piggy-back systems. yes, the initial cost is much more but you'll have a system that can handle almost anything you throw at it in the future. set a goal for what you want your car to do and then buy the minimum upgrades necessary to reach that goal safely.

 

Definatley go stand alone, Half the fun is learning how to tune it!!! I have a ApexI power fc and I love it. I can change anything I want whenever I want and dont have to go to a shop and pay for their tuning. I tune it my way.

Haltech might be an easier option for you or something besides the Power FC but I have heard that Apex is releasing a production Power FC for the FC3S so maybe soon you can get it in the states.

By far standalone is the way to go, build the foundation first so you can build anyway you need to.

They have them for FC's in J-world AFAIK....But Im not 100% on that.

Yeah...Im sure theres some differences in the ECU as well because of all the differences in emissions and what not.

Dunno about that ( Though youre probably right ) but Im almost 100% sure they make them for FC's of some sort of J-world.

I know I talked to Alf when he was over in J-world and he said they only worked on J-spec.

They only make them for the s5 or kouki FC. You have to get them from a Apex Excel shop or order it direct from AP Engineering. There is no reason it would not work on a US spec car that I can see. If you wanted to go Airflow less you could just get all the FD sensors an use them.

This computer is currently not in production so you cant just go buy it at the parts store like you can for a sylvia or GT-R and such. I bought mine as a treat to myself because I always do all the work on my car. It cost me 2300 dollars installed with no tuning It was kinda pricy because I did away with the air flow meter and used all Apex Sensors.

 

Ooooook. Nevermind then. 2300 for a PFC is too rich for my blood. I think Ill just go for a Haltech

around 1500 i think for the E6k. thats the model i think is the best. im not sure though. yeah you have to buy a laptop for it but you can get some cheap *** unit off ebay for next to nothing. the requiremnts to run a haltech are pretty simple. you can run it all day off a base map just fine. its what my friend did on his T2. runs rich as all hell though. you can download the basemaps for different cars off the internet or so i hear.

 

I have an S-AFC and for the S4 it's nearly impossible to tune correctly unless you upgrade the tps. I'm looking at either a Haltech or Microtech.
