Engine Harness repair, restore...

Someone removed my hood on my FC while I've been at school. It may have been like this for 2 or more months. Well, the main engine harness has endured rain, humidity, 100+*F heat, and dry weather. Is there a way I can make the main harness "like new".

Your biggest concern would be the plugs that attach to sensor, grounds and the sensors themselves

Forgive the digression but what do you mean, "Someone removed my hood"?
This seems like a rather capricious act for a stranger to perform.

My least concern is who did it. I was just wondering if there was a site or a store that may have the plugs. Mazda doesn't sell them anymore.

The condition is alright; plugs are weaker(cracked one), but the wires are fine.

I'm curious also, not to revel in problem...but what happened to your hood? Was it stolen? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'd think the actual harnes would be fine. Just everywhere that the harness plugged into something you'd want to check over real well. The actual insulation on the wires should be ok. I'm sure you've thought of this but I'd also worry about your alternator, battery, etc

I forgot to mention that I pulled my engine(sorry); so the only things in the engine bay is the Main harness and the wiper motor.

On the removed hood theory... Since I'm in a rural area, I think my brother and his friends did it because they don't like my car. It may be the rock and roll persona, so anything nice is bad to them. The hood is fine, couple scratches; Not a big deal.

the harness should be fine.

the engine heat alone will kill it way faster

In that case, only thing I'd worry about is cleaning the harness plugs, if they collected moisture they could develop into problems down the road

Question 2...

I did some searching, and to remove the engine bay main harness, I'd need to un-install the dash(instrument panel).

Without cutting the wires, is there a way around this?

If you mean the harness feeding through the passenger side firewall it's very simple to remove it. Unplug it from the ECU, unplug the two harnesses further up under the dash, pull the rubber plug out of the firewall and get a friend to help you feed the ECU side through the hole.

As far as the driver side harness...I don't know. I've done quite a bit of aftermarket stereo and alarm work but never tried to remove it. I can see how it would be a PITA. It would be twice as much a PITA to put the thing back in after removing it.

BUT unless there is alot of damage you see and plugs that need replaced I wouldn't mess with removing the harnesses. With the engine out it won't be hard to clean them from in the engine compartment.
