Exclamation engine bogs and accels slow

i have an 89 gxl n/a. when you try to hit the gas hard, the engine bogs out BIG TIME. i changed the plugs and wires. i changed the tps sensor. i changed the oil. i just replaced the exhaust system front to back. the check engine light comes on whenever it wants to, but i can't check the codes because i have no odb1 checker. sometimes the light goes on for 5 seconds and won't come on for another 3 weeks. also, the exhaust makes a popping sound sometimes. i have no idea what could be causing this. i feel embarased that i can't get the car above 60 for about 10 seconds when merging on the highway. i need help big time. any1 live near boston that could help me or if u know someone i'd be appreciative. thanks for reading my life story.

Are you sure the TPS is adjusted within spec and that it works properly?

What kind of exhaust did you use? New CATS? 1 or 2?

TPS adjustment procedures are in the Factory Service Manual. Very important. Also, make sure that your TPS is actually good by using the tests found in the same manual.

If he has not messed with the CAS, then timing is not the problem.

When i bought my rex i hadn't adjusted anything and my timing was around 20-25 degrees off and running horribly. When you changed your exhaust, did you replace your O2 sensor? That will cause ur check engine light to come on and off and it will zap your power.

jumper the test connector to get the codes and figure that out first, it will probably point you in the right direction rather than people taking stabs at guessing what the problem is.
