Emissions Test... Wow the standards are high
So, i just went for NJ emissions, my car has been idling funny so i wasnt sure if it was going to be all good...
However, i passed with flying colors
first number is what you have to be below, second is my result:
NOx 1006 192
HC 132 16
CO 0.73 0.12
Are most cars this low.... (or most states this high)... I wonder if i would be able to pass once i get my new exaust (no cats)
Has anyone passed emissions, nj or otherwise, without cats?

yeah, the do it at the same time... i got mine done at the westfeild station... and besides the fact that it took 8 years to get thru the line....
just make sure you get there early, like an hour or so before your time, cuz i waited in line for an hour even though i had an appointment

Depends on state, test and age of car. In NYC they dyno at various speeds for a couple of minutes following a graph. In NJ I think they do idle and an RPM test. Standards are even lower in NYC, HC allowed is 120 can't remember the rest. If you have a cat on its a good health check of how your running-my '88 vert was way under the limits.

Forgot to mention the cat issue-I think you'll fail in NJ wthout cats. I had old rattling cat on my car when purchased, failed HC only reading was like 150 where limit is 120. After new cats HC went down about 90% to about 15. So I think the cat does most of the work for HC. I had tried tune up, o2 sensor, air filters before cat they barely made a difference for HC.

F#ck! Not here in ON, Canada. I'm still trying to pass my car up to know. Our standard is too low for what I think.
(Both from 40 km/hr roll)
HC%: 76 -----> I got 122
CO%: .46 -----> 0.56
For the idle test, I passed with flying colors too (sorry I don't remember the #s).

most emissions standards aren't that high vector, but my Rex has no cats (gutted) and i could still pass w/ those. ((tested the car not too long ago, HC was like 144 w/ a leaky injector))
