Eliminating TID?

Would it make any difference if you simply went with the AFM dirrectly attached to the turbo intake, then a cone filter on the other side of the AFM? i don't have anny emmissions or anything like that left so it would be rather futile to make a tid when this would be soo much less restrictive? Any thaughts or comments?

Yes I searched but found nothing that I was looking for!

well you want to put your filter by some cold air too, and it might be harder that way.

aaaa ... yes this is true i never thaught of that, however it would be easyer to duct cold air to it rather then simply making it duct to cold air? Right? I have the Head light cover vent so there is cold air comming in right there? what do you think?

You'd have to use some kind of reducer, as the AFM exit is what, 2.5 or 3", and the inlet's only 2 or 2.5?

AFM exit on S5 is 3", turbo inlet is 2.5"

on the other note, i dont know if i'd want the TID that close to the turbo..where it is actually touching it. It cant be good for the wiring/plastic.

I Have a T04 So the inlet of my turbo is roughly the same size as the afm, so that is no worry to me, What I am asking is would that be better flow than with a TID, as the AFM will create emmediate turbulence before the turbo intake, would that make a difference than having it follow a duct for a little while with the TID vs without it?

Your best bet is to run a TID and keep the afm away from the turbo as much as possible.

Whatever you do you still need to locate the filter away from the turbo in a shielded location to stop it sucking hot engine bay air. Otherwise you're throwing away free power and risking detonation.
So you either have the AFM mounted on the turbo as you suggest (which is quite likely bad for it) and have a duct to the air filter, or you mount the air filter on the AFM and have a duct from the AFM to the turbo. Sometimes the obvious ways are the best ones.
