electric help, i need it!

hey guys i know how much we all LOVE wiring and wiring related question so i will try to make this easy. i am helping a buddy get his 88 running and have tryed to get eveything done but i cant get the exiter wire to the starter to work (no power in wire when the key is turned to start). i have noticed also that during the hours i have spent upside down under the dash that the plug for the clutch(a two wire conection and plugs in my the top of the clutch pedal) has a wire that is cut. i think this may be what is causing my problem so i ask:

1) Am i right, could this cause the problem of no voltage in the exiter wire?
2) If i am right what do i do? and if i am wrong were do the wires that go to the clutch plug come from?

i am sorry i have left my garage(it is across the city, i know that sucks) and cant give you the wire colours, sorry.

any help would really rock and i would be for ever greatfull. thanks.

Could be. There is a starter lock out on all 87 and later models (and some late 86 models).

There are two plugs and two switches on the clutch pedal on 87 and later models. Starter lock-out and cruise control.

u just have to use a volt meter and search the fsm and wire diagrams to figure it out could be a relay or a shorted wire

I'm having a similar problem, and after I get mine running will have a lot more problems because it's been sitting and parts seem kinda jumbled around in there. Anyways, I read the FAQ and some other threads. So the only things that can prevent the engine from cranking when I turn my ignition switch to start are the battery and terminal connections, ignition switch, interlock switch(manual), starter, wiring(seems unlikely?), connections. Where should I start and how do I check some of this stuff. Thanks for your help, peace, zach

color of the wires???

The plugs for the clutch lock out is above the hood release. The switch is on the clutch pedal arm.

and i think you can eliminate the starter lock out for the security if you take out the control box for the security system on a s4 its uder the glove box im not sure where it is on a s5

Nope. See the starter kill relay (located near the brake master and trailing coils) sometimes will get unplugged or will have a jumper in it that people throw away when doing engine swaps or other harness modification.

And the factory alarm brain is built into the CPU on the S5 models.

is there any way I can bypass this starter kill relay? I am assuming by using a jumper as stated above, well first I need to go take a look at the car, but it's an S4 so I think it can be done (according to your statements).
