EGR valve function?

Hey guys I have a quick question about what exactly the EGR valve does.... At idle my EGR valve whines like a faint horn that won't shut off. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP I just took out my AC and my PS so I am going to be ordering a BAC block off plate in the next couple days. I was hoping that without the need for the BAC valve I could get rid of the EGR valve as well and just block it off.

Thanks in advance guys,
Lee

EGR valve recirculates exhaust gasses to help reduce emissions. You can safely remove it, since the rotary has it's own natural EGR cycle due to the shape of the working chambers. Doubtful that it is the source of the noise though...

Oh, and you should leave your BAC valve. It is what maintains your idle, and there is no good reason to remove it.

It maintains the idle when a belt driven accessory starts putting load on the engine....which therefor needs more air to operate at a normal idle right? I have nothing belt driven except the alternator anymore so I don't need to have that BAC valve right? And I believe that it is the EGR valve that is making the noise....but I could be wrong I suppose...it is buried under there. It is a weird noise like a faint car horn that doesn't shut off. And it only happens at idle....but the weird part is that if I rev the engine real quick to about 5 grand while just sitting there in neutral then 8 times out of 10 the noise disappears. Could it be throttle plates that are misconfigured or something? It is coming from the EGR valve or something else right nearby. It is pissing me off too cuz it is happening more and more often.

Thanks for replying Aaron I really appreciate it.

...unless you go standalone though.

Remember that the alternator will also load the engine when headlights/brakelights/etc. are on. Leave the BAC. You'll be happy you did.

I can't imagine how you could do it without removing the upper intake.

thx aaron,
hey i was just reading an old thread,
how would wiring the vdi open affect power curve?
if i dd that and left the aux ports functioning normally, would i still have the higher air velocity at lower speeds?

The only thing the EGR valve does is to lower the NO output of the motor.

In most cases you can remove it without any issues

Don't wire the VDI or aux ports open. It negatively effects your low end.
