ECU wired by a 2 year old
I finally figured out whats wrong with my car ... the ecu harness has been spliced and respliced ... it looks like a gigantic rats nest ... and when I grab the harness and move it , everything screws up.. gauges , I can hear my relays start clicking and my idle loses it.. plus is it normal for the ecu to produce as much heat as my engine...lol.. anyways the moral of this story is.. is wiring a new harness and ecu do-able by a slightly mechanicly inclined person ? or is it a joke and should I burn my car ?

That all depends on how electrically inclined you are I would say it's very doable. If you can figure out that the wiring harness says that one wire should start X and end Y, and you need a piece of wire to run between them, you should be able to get it..
any idea what ECU you're going for?

the one I pulled out was a N332 , I dont know too much about them , what I do know is that when its producing more heat than my heater its probably a bad thing

oooh.. "wiring in a new harness and ECU", as in: wire up a new "stock" harness and ecu I was thinking aftermarket
To get an idea of this project, just get the Factory Service Manual for your car (87-88 judging by the ECU, if memory serves), and take a look at the wiring schematics section, to get an idea of what systems you plan on wiring up.. If it looks like something you can hack, then go for it
The ECUs are cheap to replace on the For Sale section of this forum...
edit: I do agree that it's probably bad that it's getting as hot as your heater...

if you can find a ECU and harness that hasnt been cut, its as simple as unhook the old ECU and set it aside, run the connector of the new harness through the firewall on the same side as the stock, dont unhook anything, match up the proper connectors for the new harness and pull one off, puit a new one on, pull one off, put a new one on, and so on, this should make things much easier

i'd try to pick up a used harness that hasn't been hacked to pieces, and then follow what tournapart said a few posts up. I've had to patch my harness back up for the same reasons....it was a nightmare...somebody installed the s-afc before I got the car and they cut the wires off about 1" off the harness to do it...and then it looks like it was uninstalled and reinstalled half a dozen times, and wire extensions (all the same color) were added....just ridiculous...I've been thinking about getting another harness...now that I've gone rtek 2.0 and nothing is spliced into the harness.
