ECU Problem/ Question

Hi, I have a 1989 RX7 GXL and recently I have been experiencing an intermittent problem where all of a sudden that engine will not go over 2K RPMs, basically I will have the gas pedal all the way down and the engine RPM will go to 2K and then back down and up to 2K again and it will continue doing this until the engine has cooled down for a while. I have a Blitz Intake, basically this is just a cone filter replacing the stock airbox. The MAF sensor is in place properly. The car drives great for the most part. Have any of you guys ever experienced this condition in your cars? By the way, I don't get any engine lights on when this happens, so I don't believe it is a bad sensor.

Thanks,

AFM? TPS? Have you checked anything yet?

Please forgive me if my questions are too basic. When you say AFM do you mean the sensor that seats right after the cone filter, also known as the MAF sensor, how can I check it? I just know that if it was bad, it will normally be throughing a check engine light, what is TPS?

I should also mention that this problem does not occur while I am driving the car, it happens normally when I leave my car on idle for a few minutes and then drive it, especially when the weather is hot.

Do you get a CEL? Did check for codes in the ECU. Sound kinda like MOP limp mode issues.

I don't have a scanner to read the codes of the ECU, it will be nice if I had one. But I am not sure that anything will be recorded, just because the fact that I don't get any check engine light on, or any other warning. Is there a change that maybe bacause I have a Blitz Intake, the AFM is now more exposed to the heat of the engine bay, and this is causing the malfuction? I am saying this bacause it seems like the problem occur when the car has been idleing for a while and the heat in the engine bay I am sure is way up there.

You can make one, do a search. If you have an S5 I believe they're built in.

Are you talking about an ECU Scanner?
