Hey all, this is my first post here, and it might be one controversial in nature . My girlfriend has a 2003 Eclipse convertible. I'm going to be getting a 1990 rx7 convertible in the near future. Both I do beleive are stock, and my girlfriend's is auto. I do beleive the one I'm getting is manual. Which would win? Wish me luck on getting the Rx7!

(Yes, I know there's a ton of variables, just, given the usual setup, who would win?)

 

i think you should win. we have a newer eclipse spyder convertable at work and it is slow..

 

but the vert is also a 17 sec car...

 

n/a rx7s are pretty sluggish, and the convertible is just over 3000lbs. she have the v6? she may win. youd probably have a better chance if she had a manual (if she doesnt speed often). besides, why race your girlfriend?

 

Yo the fc slaps it by a mile, if its the 4cyl one.... I know this cus I used to rape my boy that had a coupe... Im a s4 vert used to be n/a with just exhaust...... so good chance youll slap it up even more with the s5

 

I was just wondering, cuz she doesnt like the car I want to get (I dont have the Rx7 yet ), so I wanted to be able tosay "My 14 year old car kicked your 1 year old car's ***!"

i agree with dDuB... unless you are quick with the shifting.. and its a turbo.. you may have a chance.. but w/o the turbo... im not sure if you would have much of a chance.. i have a n/a and 2003 corvets and porshes try to race me and i know i cant win.. so i just speed for the fun of it.. good luck if you race her...

ya might lose.. might not.. really depends on if its a 4 or 6 banger, either way, remind your girlfriend her car sucks *** and its a disgrace to the Eclipse name.

lol thanks, I was just wondering, She thinks shes big bad and fancy cuz she has a new car, I was wondering how mine compared :-) she is better than me, cuz she has a 6 bedroom house (all paid for) in her name.... and she's only 17. I have an apartment... and i'm 18.

 

yeah... it looks like you will be a little slower if she has a GT and you have a 90 vert.

The 90/91 Vert is the slowest RX-7 made with a 0-60 of 8.9 and a 1/4 mile of 17.0 @82.0.

But if she doesn't have the V6 I would think you would soundly beat her.

 

Update: her car is an manual.... I'm gonna check out the details on the rx7 later this week.

Now I have a choice.... pay off my entire 3000 dollar credit card (16% interest), or get a new loan for the car, begin paying on it, my credit card, and insurance.

Also, I cant even drive yet I need to get off my *** and get a license.

Think they'll sell the car within the next 2 months?

 

Uh, I think you will beat your girlfriend, because girls cant drive manuals efficiently. They shift at like 3500 RPMs, with slow, bad shifts, etc. If this is the case, you will win.

 

That's a stereotype. I have met plenty of girls, including my gf, that speed and shift just fine.

Heh. I guess that might be true, but the majority of the ones I've ever driven in a car with know how to drive and speed more than I do.

Heck, my MOM owns a Porsche and she knows how to drive it just fine. She's always owned cars where she can speed and go crazy, and all of them have been manuals. I'm just speaking from my experience, and I've actually yet to meet a girl that drive like you describe

The launch is going to be a big factor.

 

On the other hand this girl probably has been driving longer than young roxsox has, so the chances that his launchs are good is pretty low.

 

Jus get a 13bt dropped in the 90vert and she will be lookin at u as small as an ant.

 

why do you want a vert? I just got rid of my 88 and now have a 90 coupe and I am so much happier.

mine is a auto at the moment but will get a 5spd swap.


I will admit it was nice to drop the top down or run around with the targa out but when the top was up and the targa was on- the thing squeaked and rattled too much. I absolutely hated the car when it rained.


I did get it running pretty good but now it has been replaced.

My wife knows how to drive the **** out of the FC. She loves it compared to her Cavelier convertable.

 

You should stomp it, even the V6 Eclipses are a joke. They need to offer a GSX or GS-T again..

 

Why would he be able to stomp it? The auto version V6 eclipse is actually faster than the coupe n/a manual rx7 stock vs. stock. Let alone the fact that she has a manual and his is a vert.

Of course, driving has a lot to do with it, you really dont know "for sure" until you do it.
