eccentric shaft nut flywheel problem

It took me about a week to get the damn flywheel nut off bewteen snapping the breaker bar and whating for the rb wrench(good buy anyone doing a rebuild) and then i had to beat that thing to hell to get the flywheel off. And now i flipped the engine to take off the main hub nut(eccentric shaft nut) and the **** spins like crazy..o yea no compression.duh. And now the flywheel wont go back on i lined it up with the key and let it click in there hit it around the edges and the **** wont go on. The key is like pushed all the way down, does that have to be up? Well anyway in the atkins rotary rebuild video they but the nut on by stopping the counter weight with a screw driver. now ive read about this nut not budging from 600 ft pnd of torque im pretty sure that holding that counter weight with that much torgue would probably eat the **** out of it. So i guess my question is does anyone know a trick to getting the flywheel back on?

Moral: for all you doing rebuilds on motors with no compression take the eccentric shaft nut off first.

yeah.

When you're putting the flywheel back on Ive found you have to angle the key in order to slip the flywheel backon.

BUT FIRST - set the key in the groove on the eccentric shaft and tip it back and forth and make sure it slides smoothly, if it has a burr or gets stuck when you try to tip it in the groove, you will have a hard time getting the flywheel on. Do the same with the key in the groove on the flywheel.

if there is a burr, sand it off DONT GO WILD ON IT otherwise the key will be loose.

turn the e-shaft so the groove is up.

set the key in the groove with the FRONT of the key tipped higher than the back, the back should be about flush with the eshaft.

GENTLY set the flywheel on without pushing the key back any further, once its at that point the flywheel will push on and the key will seat

3/4 drive impact ,175 lbs. air, and socket that fits , works for me everytime, oh the front can be tight also. do not stick anything in the spark plug holes to stop turning , I use a big pry bar in the flywheel locked against the rear hsg., but I also use a tool to lock the flywheel. just make sure you dont hurt something.

Try a blowtorch on the front nut, helps to loosen threadlock.
