EC-AT auto box issues
hi ive got a 1990 mazda luce. pics here - https://www.rx7club.com/old-school-other-rotary-63/my-daily-driver-1990-hc-royal-classic-luce-factory-13bt-auto-508087/
its a 13bt auto.
now cause of the rarity of the vehicle i really dont want to convert it to manual.
i was having troubles where the hold light on the dash flashes and the box would disengage overdrive.
the only way for it to reset is to come to a complete stop.
then the hold light turns off and she engages overdrive when you get upto cruising speed again.
but if you hit the brakes or disengage cruise control and it does it roughly the hold light flashes again and overdrive is disengaged.
a mate of mine (who has the same version Luce as me) has rebuilt his box but after 12 months its now doing it.
which would lead me to beleive it to be electrical. any one with ideas?
any help i will be greatfull
thanks

I don't think you need the tester. See the first jpg where it says you can look at the flashing HOLD light to gather codes.
I'm GUESSING that in the second jpg, you look at the right column, and at the top of that column it says BUZZER (HOLD indicator lamp flash cycle).
Like for Code 6, you would have six short flashes.
For Code 12, you'd have one long followed by two short flashes.
For Code 55 you'd have five long flashes followed by five short flashes.
For Code 60 you'd have six long flashes.
That's what I understand from that page. I could be wrong, I don't own a series five with automatic transmission. But SOMEONE out there does and knows how to do this.

i wish it were that easy!!
were not getting a buzzer
this is my mates reply -
Okies…well as you might remember, the flashing is just steady and constant 1.2s flash, 1.2s pause, 1.2s flash. So it doesn’t match any of those fault codes….but I reckon it might not be a normal fault code anyhoo…I can make the flashing go away temporarily by goosing the throttle away from a standstill, and it starts flashing again when you touch the brake pedal.
So I reckon, maybe it isn’t a specific fault code which is in the ecu memory, but rather it’s just an all-purpose “HELP” error from the trans?
any thoughts??
thanks again for all your help

Did he ground one pin BLUE connector, like one of the jpgs I attached mentioned doing? I know not where the check connector is at the moment.
EDIT: I attached the location of the Blue connector(s). I'd recommend downloading the series five AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSON section of the FSM. I don't want to paste every page out of it.

From what I understand, you get a buzz IF you use the tester. The buzzer is a part of the Tester. No tester..then you ground the one pin BLUE connector and then watch the HOLD light flash a code at you. No audio involved.

im going over on saturday.
so ill print up the manual and see what we come up with.
knowing mazda i bet the diagnosis plug wont be in the same place as the rx7 for our Luce (even though we have been told they use the rx7 looms)!!! lol
will have to track it down then do the tests.
ill post back here what we found for future reference as well..

All this time I thought Luce was a girls name for a car. Oh well. humor
And as for Cone-Crushr.....................if there's anything worse than someone advocating the SIX S program, it's those obstructionest QC personel. All they're good for is creating overtime and I'd be surprised if you looked at their birth certificate whether it has a father listed on it. some minor humor there.

hi guys update.
my mates car
lesson learned one - make sure your earth is stable or the diagnosis mode is a PITA.
once you make sure the earth is stable the code came up
one long flick and 2 quick flicks = code 12
throttle sensor or wiring
hope its not the TPS. from mazda $360AUS trade
