The point is to do something that is, or at least was, difficult. It's not a challenge to build a 5 second car, assuming the money is available. The challenge is to be the first to do something, like the first front driver in the 7s or the first import to break a 200 mph trap speed.

yeah, when you chop the top off a car, it tends to weigh hella more than a coupe... 2800 lbs isn't all that bad, id take a S2k over a 7 any day of the week

Hmm, I have to completely disagree with you. At the autocross a few weeks ago, I watched a stock class Dodge Neon beat every Corvette on the track. First of all, the driver is 99% of the speed. Why exactly would a 15 second RX-7 beat a 13 second CRX? Simply because it's rwd? I would bet money that a good driver could put down faster times in a 13 second CRX. It's true that the CRX would be at a disadvantage because of fwd. However, a 13 second CRX probably weighs in at around 2000 pounds, versus around 2600-2800 for the RX-7. With ony 2000 pounds to throw around, you can transition, corner, and brake better and harder. Not to mention accelerate a hell of a lot faster.

My point is just because a car is rwd does not mean it will necessarily be faster than a fwd car. True, rwd cars do have more physics working in their favor compared to fwd cars. However, there are also many ways a fwd car can overcome it's inherent disadvantage.

GXL's are heavy, an SI will roast them. Besides that, though,
MAZDA = sports car company

HONDA = economy car company

I think that poeple who lie about what they are running to win money races should have their *** kicked by the person who lost. A stock Z06 does a 12.6 1/4 mi. Blindingly quick.
