Yea, the gilmers is loud (sounds like you have a supercharger, which is really writing checks that the stock NA engine can't cash... sorta ricy), expensive, and replacement parts aren't easily obtainable, which takes it out of the running for me.

The yoohoo belts seem alright, except that you really have no control over the tension of them, so they're a bit of a PITA to get on the first time, and are more likely to be putting a much higher loading on the crank & waterpump bearings, until they wear & stretch a little, at which point they can become too loose & you have no way of re-tensioning the waterpump belt anyway.

The dual alt belt is what I run, since its pretty easy to find belts that match well enough, it still allows you to tension the whole setup, and the dual alt pulleys are fairly cheap & available from a couple different people.

The ribbed belt that Banzai posted looks like a good solution too, as long as the belt itself is a widely available part for say, a SBC or mod-V8 or something that ensures part stores all over will have it.

I have the 6 rib serp. setup from atkins and the belts are easy to source. If you order the kit just take the belt down to a local parts store and get the to match it up. I have the part number written under the hood of my car, but thats at my parents house right now

Rotary Works has a gilmore kit for $200 with a belt. A friend just bought one, but it's not on a car yet. Overall finish isn't the best. Surface finish is a little rough. It's not perfect, but can't beat the price.

There is two different water pump pulleys (center bore), and they will send you whichever one they feel like. No option on checkout. Better start harassing the shitty customer support now...

Question, whats a Glimmer kit? I noticed like 5 people said that.

Seriously whats the point of a Gilmer unless your spinning a super? No point really, dual alt pulley is the wait to go.

The only problem I have with the dual alternator pulley is the fact that there is still only about a half inch on either rib where the belt contacts the water pump pulley. Granted, 1" of surface contact is better than 1/2", that's still not a whole lot. If I had known about the yoohoo belt before buying the dual alternator pulley, I'd have probably gone with that route. Even then, the yoohoo belt has the possible disadvantage of destroying the front eccentric shaft journal.

Glimmer? Sounds like something from twilight....

do people not read anymore and just keep posting the same thing over and over again?

the angle on the water pump pulley was never intended for a simplified car. unless you relocate the alternator even dual pulleys can and DO slip.

not saying the gilmer is the best alternative but in actuality a relocated alternator IS the best method compared to anything else mentioned here. usually a little bit of slip isn't a huge deal and most people accept it. but this is in regard to an actual answer to the original question for an ideal correction.
