Dual intercoolers?

Okay, I'm going out on a limb here... I'm pretty much curious... Is it possible to run two intercoolers. One front mount, one top mount? Why I'm asking... Okay, there's always the comparison. Top mount is for autoX, and fm is for drag. TM has the heat sink prob, fm has the prob of blocking the radiator. my thinking... If fm's block the radiator, why not get a small intercooler for the front, and then keep the top mount? probably because you don't need both... but wouldn't a fm get beaucoup more air than the tm? I don't know.. So I figure, run both, get the best of both worlds... So, it'd probably be expensive as hell right? **** loads for piping, and it would take a LONG *** time for the air to circulate right? I'm just trying to figure things out. I know... I'm getting carried away..

Um, you'd probably just end up getting the worst of both worlds! Long pipes, blocked radiator, heat soak, four tanks to flow through...

well a FMIC does block the radiator but not enough to cause any problems. Running a top mount a front mount would not give many if any benefits as the top mount would still be soaking up all the heat from the engine and would transfer this heat to the intake before entering the engine.

It would not be cost effective at all with all the piping. The top mount reall isn't good for AutoX, a front mount would be better than a top mount in any situation I could imagine. The only thing that my be better for DRAG RACING is a water cooled intercooler.

water cooled intercoolers

Okay, that's cool. I was just wonderin' about the duals.. I thought it might be a little over the top. But that's cool. Moving on. Water cooled intercoolers? You must explain... How do they function? Recycle water through the core or what? And are they more of a bitch to install? They've got to be more expensive obviously, but are they worth the effort of install (if there is any difference from a normal ic) and money as opposed to a normal fmic? new world to me.. I'm just looking to soak up knowledge...

Top mount intercoolers suck no matter how you look at them. On the FC, they function more as an interheater since they soak heat from the engine, and the scoop is poorly placed and gets very little air at speed...

Front mounts don't block very much air...Look through one and you'll see what I mean...Best benifit would be to go with a large front mount.

Air-water intercoolers are pretty decent, and the intercooler itself is very compact and can be mounted nearly anywhere...You then run water piping to a small radiator that is ideally located in front of the main radiator...Again, very easy to mount due to the thin water pipes instead of fat air pipes...Of course you need a pump and somewiring as well...Heavier than an air-air intercooler, but the advantages above make it very appealing...
